There’s something about the first hint of fall that makes us want to switch things up. As the weather cools and our wardrobes start leaning into richer tones and cozier textures, our beauty routines naturally follow.
But transitioning into fall doesn’t mean starting over. This season, we’re making a few simple swaps, trading some of our bright, glossy summer favourites for richer shades, softer finishes and a little more warmth.
Here are five beauty swaps we’re making as we head into fall.
1. Clear & Pink Gloss → Brown and Caramel Lips
We’re not giving up gloss, we’re just warming it up. The sheer pinks and juicy clear glosses we reached for all summer are making room for caramel nudes, mocha browns and warm neutral lip combinations.A brown lip liner paired with a creamy nude or sheer caramel gloss is one of the easiest ways to make your everyday makeup feel instantly more autumnal without going dramatically darker. The fall mood: mocha, caramel, cinnamon, warm nude and soft chocolate.
2. Bright Summer Nails → Rich, Moody Neutrals
This might be our favourite seasonal switch. We’re trading bright whites, corals, pastels and playful summer shades for chocolate brown, espresso, burgundy, black cherry and creamy taupe. And if you love a lighter manicure, you don’t have to abandon your milky neutrals. Try adding a chocolate French tip, burgundy detail or subtle tortoiseshell accent for a fall update. The fall mood: espresso, chocolate, wine, black cherry, taupe and milky beige.
3. Ultra Dewy Skin → Soft Satin Skin
Summer was all about glossy, sun kissed skin. For fall, we’re keeping the healthy glow but dialing down the shine. Think soft satin finishes that still look like skin: hydrated, smooth and naturally luminous rather than overly matte. Instead of completely changing your base routine, try using less illuminating product through the centre of the face while keeping a subtle glow on the high points.
The fall mood: polished, softly luminous and skin like.
4. Peachy & Coral Tones → Muted Rose and Berry
Our peach and coral blushes had their moment all summer. Now we’re reaching for slightly moodier tones. Muted rose, dusty mauve, warm berry and soft terracotta bring just enough depth to make a makeup look feel seasonal while still being incredibly wearable. The same idea works on the eyes. Swap bright champagne and gold for taupe, bronze, cocoa and soft brown.
The fall mood: dusty rose, mauve, berry, terracotta, taupe and cocoa.
5. Beachy Beauty → Soft, Polished Beauty
Summer beauty tends to feel effortless and undone, beachy waves, glossy skin and barely there makeup. For fall, we’re leaning into something a little more polished. Think glossy brunette waves, soft blowouts, sleek buns, softly defined eyes, brown liner and monochromatic makeup in warm neutral shades. It still feels effortless, just slightly more intentional.
The fall mood: cozy, polished, understated and effortless.
The Fall Beauty Edit
The easiest way to transition your beauty routine into fall isn’t to replace everything in your makeup bag. Start with the colours and textures you already love and take them a shade deeper, warmer or richer. Clear gloss becomes caramel. Coral becomes terracotta. White nails become creamy taupe. Bright red becomes black cherry. Sometimes a new season only needs a few little swaps.
